Cute decor

One of my girlfriends came up with the idea for our other friend's bridal shower.

It's called (I think) 'A Box of Firsts'. The idea is to put a decoration for each holiday for the newlyweds. I thought it was a great idea. I think you are also not supposed to spend much money on this. You can use the things you have.

I had Thanksgiving, Winter, Valentine's Day and Memorial/Veterans/President's Day.

I was sure that I wasn't going to find the things that were out of season anywhere and we don't have much in terms of 'decor' for these holidays (we're in an apartment and frankly don't have much storage space here).

So I decided to use some of the craft supplies that I had around the house. I have to say...very pleased with myself. I kind of wanted to keep the Valentine's Day decor for myself. Oh well, I guess I'll just have to make another! :-)

This is the Thanksgiving decoration. I had some small, think wooden plaques that I had randomly bought while perusing around Wa-lMart. I just slapped some brown paint on it, added a traced out piece of scrap paper (applied with spray adhesive), printed out that 'Give Thanks' on a cream colored piece of scrap paper and added the paper punch out frame that I had. Voila!

Oh and I ghetto added the ribbon. You don't want to see the back. It's just stabled in there with a regular 'ole stapler! :-)

This is my least favorite piece of decor that I made for the box. It is for Winter and very easy. Just had that snow scrap paper and cut it out to fit. Those are stickly little embellishments that I wrote 'let it snow' on each one. Slap that baby in a frame and you're good to go!

This is my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE! The one I want too!

Same idea as the Thanksgiving plaque - painted the wood, let it dry. All of the other additives are stickly embelishments. I just wrote on that blank cream one with permanent marker. *I wrote in pencil very lightly first and traced with the marker. Then erased any pencil still showing after it dried a bit. Oh it's just sooo cute!

Anybody else have some cute diy decor ideas? I'd love to hear!

I'm currenlty saving anything fairly easy and home-ifying under 'new home decor' on my computer for ideas when we move.
